  • 29 February 2016 Previous MECA ends[1] although in due course it is extended to end of February 2017 while negotiations and industral action continues
  • 17 August 2016 Safer hours proposal rejected[2]
  • 12 September 2016 Mediation fails[3]
  • 29 September 2016 Formal ballot on strike action announced.
  • 3 October 2016 NZRDA announces 2 day strike on 16th October[4].
  • 16 October 2016 48 hour strike. In due course the disruption to the health economy was estimated to be more in value than the lost wages of the strikers.
  • 14 November 2016 Further strike action suspended following the magnitude 7.8 Kaikoura earthquake. Negotiations resume.
  • 12 December 2016 Bill English becomes new prime minster with major cabinet reshuffle following.
  • 30 December 2016 Complete withdrawal of labour by NZRDA members for a period of 73 hours commencing at 0700 hrs on Tuesday January 17, 2017, finishing at 0800hrs on Friday 20 January 2017 announced[5] The strike would affect 18 District Health Boards out of 20. Negotiations were continuing.
