The Abiomed ventricular assist system is manufactured by Abiomed. It is an extracorporeal blood pump for short term use, and is most often used to support patients with post cardiotomy shock, i.e. failure to wean from cardio-pulmonary bypass. It can be used to support left, right or both ventricles.
