Alexander Gordon (1752-1799) was an Aberdeen physician who first described convincingly in 1795 the spread of puerperal fever by hands although this work, although widely re-printed at the time, was forgotten for years and it is said was not welcomed by the midwives who tried to blame him for their poor practice results. He returned to a Naval doctor career. [1]
