A.C.A.=Anterior cerebral artery
  • Branch of the internal carotid artery
  • Runs forward and medially
  • enters longitudinal fissure of cerebrum
  • joined to artery of other side by anterior communicating artery
  • curves backwards over corpus callosum
  • Cortical branches
    • supply all medial surface of cortex
      • as far as parietal-occipital sulcus
    • supply 1 inch strip of lateral cortex
      • "leg area" of precentral gyrus
  • Central branches
    • pierce brain substance
    • supply deep masses of grey matter
