ATP-binding cassette sub-family G member 2 exports heme from cells and also a number of drugs that form glucuronide conjugates. Its primary transport function seems to be usually for purine nucleoside analogues. An ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporter protein it is better known historically as a multidrug resistance (MDR) transporter because of its association with malignancies that became resistant to mitoxantrone, daunorubicin or doxorubicin.
