Permament abnormal dilation of large and medium bronchi as a result of infection and inflammation. Usually (relatively pointlessly) classified as:

  • Cylindrical
  • Varicose
  • Saccular
  • Cystic

Best diagnosed by helical high resolution CT[1]



Attributable to large airway injury and remodeling due to recurrent or chronic inflammation and infection[2]



  • Antibiotics
  • Macrolide antibiotics i.e. azithromycin thrice weekly for its anti-inflammatory effect
  • Mucolytics
  • Immunomodulation


  • Pulmonary rehabilitation[7]
  • Sputum clearance techniques


  • Resection affected lung[8][9]
