Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
CDC started in 1946 to help control malaria. It took over from the wartime organisation Malaria Control in War Areas (MCWA) but then spread the initial remit worldwide with many overseas commitments.
It publishes the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report a brief fact-filled review of the latest in public health issues.
It has produced a computer program Epi Info to gather information on victims of an epidemic and allow rapid recognition of common factors e.g. which foodstuff is responsible for an outbreak of gastroenteritis.
