Caecum

From Latin blind or blind end. The small and large bowel where once thought to be separate and unconnected. The caecum therefore appeared to be a blind end.The most proximal end of the large bowel where the terminal ileum enters in. The appendix also emerges from the caecum.
Clinical Relevance
- Can be site of perforation as diameter is larger than ascending colon (see Laplace's Law).
