Not to be confused with cataplexy.

Cataplepsy is a well described[1] neurologic/psychiatric syndrome characterised by:

  1. Muscular rigidity
  2. Fixity of posture regardless of external stimuli
    • Limbs staying in same position when moved (waxy flexibility)
  3. Decreased sensitivity to pain

It can be caused by drugs or conditions that modulate the dopamine/serotonin receptors. Genetic forms exist.Animal models exist.
