Catecholamine

Chemical group consisting of a catechol part (benzenediol) and an amine group. Commonly derived from the amino acid tyrosine. The group includes:

• Adrenaline
• Dopamine
• Noradrenaline

In the body they are synthesised by chromaffin cells found in the adrenal medulla and sympathetic nervous system.
