ALS, or Advanced Life Support, is an intensive 2-day course organised by the Resuscitation Council (UK) for healthcare providers who may encounter an acutely unwell adult. It aims to teach both the theory and practical skills required to manage cardiopulmonary arrest and peri-arrest situations. It provides algorithms for managing such events. All members of the hospital cardiac arrest team (increasingly now known as the Medical Emergency Team (MET)) should be registered ALS providers.

The section conveys the core aspects of ALS. Please note, the articles here in no way replace ALS certification, they serve merely as a aid to managing the acutely unwell adult by following ALS guidelines.
