More serious trauma such as significant burns, blunt or penetrating injury may require physiological support (eg resuscitation-not necessarily cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) which has a more specific meaning),intensive care and surgery. Polytrauma refers to multiple major injuries. There is a speciality of trauma surgery but all surgical specialities can be involved in managing trauma.
