Use of chelation to a therapeutic end. See chelators. Used in conventional medicine to treat states of excess (toxic) atomic ion exposure such as iron overload. Has been offered by alternative therapy practioners for treating several conditions postulated to be aggravated by excessive atomic ion exposure and in this context has no proof of effectiveness[1].
