Chemotaxis is movement in response to a chemical (gradient). Usually used in sense of cells directing their movements according to chemicals in their environment. Positive chemotaxis is movement toward a higher concentration of a chemical that is a chemoattractant. Negative chemotaxis would be towards a lower concentration of a chemical. Chemorepellents that cause movement away from their high concentration also exist.
