Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Sometimes referred to as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS - usually pronounced"Kamms").

The subspecialty of psychiatry which deals with the mental health needs of children and adolescents. It is a multi-disciplinary area in which doctors work alongside a wide range of other disciplines, including amongst others, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists, family therapists, art therapists and occupational therapists, together with the usual wide range of nursing subspecialties and different types of social worker.

Underlying all these activities is the need to view the mental health of young people in a developmentally appropriate context.
