A molecular configuration in which two chemical species, located either end of a bond with limited rotation, are both found on the same side of the molecule. Cis and Trans configurations are instances of isomerism. Compare trans.

In molecular biology, cis-acting regulators refer to regulating elements on the same strand as the DNA.
