Introduction

Analogue of adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH).

Clinical Use

Indications

  • Diagnosis of adrenocortical insufficiency
  • Therapy using bodies own maximum production of glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids generally in patients short term who are unable to tolerate oral steroids

Administration

  • IV - 250 microgram as short synthacin test
    • Cortisol levels before and at 30 mimutes
    • Children: 250micrograms/1.73m² body surface area
  • IM - 250 microgram as long synthacin test
  • Synacthen Depot 1mg IM 5-hour test
