Named after a place, not a person—Coxsackie is a town in upstate New York.

Some Coxsackie viruses are implicated in the causation of Juvenile or Insulin dependent Type 1 Diabetes.

One of the several known group A Coxsackie viruses is the usual cause of hand, foot and mouth disease, one of the childhood exanthemata.

The group B ones are more noted for disease beyond the intestine e.g. myocarditis.
