Nucleoside consisting of the pyrimidine cytosine but, unlike cytidine which has a deoxyribose sugar, cytarabine has an arabinose sugar. Used as an anti-metabolite/chemotherapeutic drug in the treatment of haematological malignancies. It also has anti-viral properties.
