Cytokine release syndrome
Cytokine release syndrome is usually milder than a cytokine storm and can be induced by overwhelming infection or toxaemia. However it usually is used to describe a reaction to a drug that demodulates the immune system. It is associated with immune activation and can have many serious consequences such as pulmonary oedema, renal failure or of course the multi-organ failure of cytokine storm. A spectacular example of the latter occured with the first human administration ofTGN1412.
