Pain on sexual intercourse.
Often talked about in relation to women but can affect men as well.
When talking to women differentiate between superficial and deep to help establish the cause. May be related to local conditions (e.g. lichen sclerosus), intra-abdominal conditions (e.g. pelvic inflammatory disease) or psychological reactions to intercourse (vaginismus)
In men causes can be local such as eczema, balanitis or Peyronie's disease or may even be from left over sutures in their partner.
 | Who is the patient? The nylon thread tails on an IUCD may acquire a point when they are trimmed and as they project from the os of the cervix spike the glans of the partner. This may be reported by either partner, but sometimes will be reported by the female with the implication being that she experiences pain from the threads. Don't challenge, trim. |
