The tissue cell type lining the interior surface of vessels. Its physiology, particularly of blood vessels is of considerable importance in common diseases such as atherosclerosis, vasodilation, the bodies response to tissue damage and haemostasis. Another example is the blood brain barrier mediated by the formation of tight junctions of adjacent capillary endothelial cells in the CNS during development due to Wnt signaling[1].
