Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) are becoming more common, and are a source of great concern.

entero- from ancient greek ἔντερον (enteron, “intestine”) + bacterium from ancient greek βακτήριον (baktērion, “small staff”) + -aceae from Latin (a suffix used to form the name of taxonomic families of plants, algae and fungi).
