A biological catalyst. The vast majority of enzymes are formed from proteins, but there is a small group of ribonucleic acids compounds called ribozymes that demonstate limited catalytic activity.

Info bulb.pngEnzymes are frequently named by adding the term "ase" to the name of the substrate eg phosphatase is phosphate + ase.
