Feline leukemia virus subgroup C cellular receptor 1 coded by the FLVCR1 gene at 1q31 is a member of the major facilitator superfamily of transporter proteins. Another similar gene is FLVCR2.
  • Exports cytoplasmic heme in man[1]
  • Cell surface receptor for feline leukemia virus, subgroup C
  • Protects developing erythroid cells from haem toxicity during the early stages of differentiation

Deficiency causes loss of erythroid progenitors (colony-forming units-erythroid, CFU-E) and severe anemia (in cats !)
