High power photomicrograph showing the cross-section of a terminal ileal crypt. An endocrine cell is present at the 9 o'clock position, recognisable by its subnuclear eosinophilic cytoplasm. Paneth cells line the upper part of the crypt (from 10 to 2 o'clock).
