Fluid resuscitation has certain generalities[1] which all should know but as in all areas of fluid management patient specific factors can be important. For example the regimes used in common conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis are well defined and evidenced based but are not those a surgeon might be taught for general fluid resuscitation[2].
