Sir George Edward Godber (4 August 1908- 7 February 2009) was Chief Medical Officer for the United Kingdom from 1960 to 1973 who influenced the development of both specialist and primary care, particularly addressing underinvestment in the latter.[1] He also encouraged better distribution of access to specialist care and was a major player in the process of addressing smoking. He did not tolerate the incompetent.
