Coded by the DKC1 gene, it is a key component of the small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (H/ACA snoRNP) complex important in ribosome biogenesis and telomere maintenance. It might catalyze pseudouridylation of rRNA. Allows correct processing or intranuclear trafficking of the RNA component (TERC) of telomerase reverse transcriptase.
