Following agreement by both Houses on the text of the Health and social care bill 2011, it received Royal Assent on 27 March 2012. The Bill is now an Act of Parliament (law).
There had been much opposition to the Bill from the medical professions prior to its introduction, and there is great concern that the Act will damage the National Health Service.
