Howard Taylor Ricketts (1871-3rd May 1910 from typhus) discovered:
- Rickettsia typhi the cause of typhus during the Mexican outbreak that claimed his own life
- Rickettsia rickettsii and its transmission via ticks to cause Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
