While negligence is the tort and cause of action doctors most give attention to, impropriety deserves considerable attention as it is a common cause of disciplinary action against doctors

An accusation of impropriety directed at a doctor can involve local governance, the doctor's professional organisation, their insurers and the judicial system. It includes failure to observe standards of honesty or modesty, improper behaviour such as sexual impropriety, wrongdoing such as bribery or murder, other forms of misconduct such as fraud, dishonesty such as mis-certification, corruption, unscrupulousness, adult or child protection issues, and unprofessionalism such as breaking confidentiality.
