Integrin alpha-M, a 1152 amino acid peptide is coded by ITGAM at 16p11.2. It has a role in adhesive interactions of monocytes, macrophages and granulocytes as well as in mediating the uptake of complement-coated particles. It is identical to CR-3, the receptor for the iC3b fragment of the third complement component. This has resulted in multiple names. Variants may determine susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus.
