Interleukin-17A is the processed form of the 155 amino acid peptide coded by the IL17A gene at 6p12.2. It is a member of the IL-17 family of five interleukins and mediates the production of chemokines and recruitment of neutrophils. It specifically helps in protection by disease organisms such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and Candida albicans. Type 17 helper T cells express it most prominently.
