Interleukin-4

The 153 amino acid pro-peptide of interleukin-4 (IL-4) is coded by the IL4 gene that maps to chromosome 5q23-31 and is close to the interleukin-5 locus and those of several hematopoietic growth factors. It is produced by:

  • Activated T-cells (Th2)
  • Mast cells
  • Activated T-cells (Th1) to lesser extent.

Variations in IL4 are associated with susceptibility to ischaemic stroke.
