Interleukin-6 receptor subunit alpha is a 468 amino acid peptide coded by the IL6R gene at 1q21.3. Isoform 1 is further processed before becoming part of the single-pass type I membrane protein interleukin-6 receptor. Isoform 2, contains only 365 amino acids and is soluble and partially blocks IL-6.
