Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome

Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) is a variant of Small pupil syndrome characterised by:

  • Flaccid iris billowing in response to intraoperative irrigation
  • Miosis despite standard pre-operative mydriatic drugs
  • Potential iris prolapse

It is associated with use of tamsulosin and other alpha blockers
