Ischaemic colitis

Inflammation of the large bowel due to ischaemia. Ischaemia of the mucosa compromises its integrity, causing it to lose barrier function and hence promoting bacterial translocation. Can be difficult diagnosis to make. Late diagnosis carries a poor prognosis.
