Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 is coded by the KDR gene and functions as a receptor for VEGF or vascular endothelial growth factor C. It is involved in vascular development and regulation of vascular permeability. Interaction with extracellular HIV viral Tat protein enhances the angiogenesis in Kaposi's sarcoma. The receptor is blocked by drugs like ranibizumab. This is important as the receptor is active in physiological processes such as gonadotropin production in granulosa cells and malignancy.
