Low density lipoprotein (LDL) is often referred to as 'bad' cholesterol, but strictly speaking it is a aggregation of carrier proteins carrying lipids and cholesterol. Matters are even more complex with for example Lp(a) lipoprotein consisting of the LDL particle covalently linked to apolipoprotein(a) having associations with coronary artery disease in certain racial groups (eg whites), that may be stronger than the LDL associations.
