Low density lipoprotein receptor
The LDL receptor is coded for at 19p13.2. The LDLR glycoprotein is formed from a 120-kD glycoprotein precursor that has the covalent addition of another protein to form the 160-kD mature glycoprotein.
It is used as the means of entry into cells by some viruses such as hepatitis C.
Mutations can cause a form of familial hypercholesterolaemia.
