The LIMD1 gene at 3p21.31 codes for the 676 amino acid pro-peptide of LIM domain-containing protein 1. This is an adapter or scaffold protein, phosphorylated during mitosis, which participates in the assembly of numerous protein complexes. It promotes microRNA (miRNA)-mediated gene silencing and is essential for P-body formation and integrity. It acts as a hypoxic regulator via HIF. It is involved in cell fate determination, cytoskeletal organization, repression of gene transcription, cell-cell adhesion, cell differentiation, proliferation and migration. (do not confuse with LIM domain-binding protein 1).
