The ABCC8 gene at 11p15.1 codes for the 1581 amino acid ATP-binding cassette sub-family C member 8 membrane protein which is a sulfonylurea receptor. It is believed to be a subunit of the beta-cell ATP-sensitive potassium channel (KATP). Mutations cause:
