Louping ill

Louping ill is a tick Ixodes ricinus transmitted Flaviviridae infection of sheep that can be transmitted to man. In man it causes four possible clinical syndromes[1]:

  1. Influenza-like illness
  2. Bi-phase encephalitis
  3. Poliomyelitis-like illness
  4. Haemorrhagic fever

In sheep it causes biphasic fever, depression, ataxia, muscular incoordination, tremors, posterior paralysis, coma, and death
