The Mantoux test is a tuberculin skin test, used to determine immunity to tuberculosis (TB) prior to BCG vaccination, or as a screening test for TB.

The Mantoux test has a long history of use across the world, but until 2005 the standard test used in the UK was the Heaf test. This ceased to be available in 2005, and since then the Mantoux test has been used instead.

  • The contacts with no reaction are very interesting.
    • They are infected, or not immune
  • The contacts with a brisk Mantoux reaction - 15mm - are also interesting,
  • Those with a moderate reaction - 10mm - are much less interesting.
