Light activated photoproduct of rhodopsin in a G-interacting helix-loop conformation, generally identified by its 380-nm absorption, where the retinal Schiff base bond to the apoprotein is deprotonated. It is a key part of the visual cycle in rod cells. Metarhodopsin III is then formed with retinal release.OpsinTransition.png
