Octreotide scintigraphy

Also known as somatostatin-receptor scintigraphy.

Radiolabelled-octreotide is administered intravenously. It is selectively taken up by neuroendocrine cells, including cells within the liver, spleen, kidney and bladder. It can be used to detect neuroendocrine tumours such as carcinoid and phaeochromocytomas.
