The 444 amino acid orexin receptor type 2 is coded by the HCRTR2 gene at 6p11-q11. Variations in this gene are associated with cluster headache. Orexin-2 receptor antagonists initiate sleep and prolong sleep in the sleep-awake structures of the lateral hypothalamus.
