(PFO) Politely, a patent foramen ovale - a hole in the heart where the foetal communication between the Atria has not closed. It is fairly common. The main article on this subject is on atrial septal defects.
PFO is also an abbreviation for a common mechanism of injury seen in Emergency and Accident departments - due to Gravity and inebriation.
