Polydipsia

Abnormally large intake of fluids. Often accompanies polyuria.

Causes include:

1. Homeostatic reaction to excess water excretion
   • Osmotic diuresis
     • Diabetes mellitus
     • Hypercalcaemia
   • Drug induced
     • Diuretics
2. Psychogenic
   • Schizophrenia
3. Pathology causing inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone
